The first one is the place where we can find all the life support devices the Fun Deck is, as the name suggests, responsible for the entertainment, while on the Bio Deck we can grow plants, and gather essential resources. The base consists of three levels - the Sub Deck, the Fun Deck, and the Bio Deck. The game features 8 alien races, each with different needs and personal preferences - in order to be a successful commander, we should satisfy all of them. As the commander, we must take care of the finances, economy, and general satisfaction of the inhabitants, represented by a variety of different alien life forms from all over the galaxy.
The player's job is to manage the whole space station and bring back its greatness from the old days. Gameplay Starbase Startopia is a space base-building game with features characteristic for an empire building simulator. She also mentions the fact, that the last commander 'disappeared' in mysterious circumstances, after a closer encounter with a worm-like alien life form. The shipboard artificial intelligence known as VAL recognizes the player as the only intelligent life form nearby and hereby nominates us the new commander.
